Winter Fest

Today we held our school annual Winter Fest for the primary students.  It is very much like the Halloween Howl, but without the costume parade in the afternoon.  Each primary class takes turns going to the gym to compete in the relay races.  We spent the afternoon with 4 other classes (two grade 2 classes, a grade 3 class and a kindergarten class).  It was so much fun!  There are 8 events to compete in.
1.) Snowshoe Race (with the help of a partner you have to walk with the paper snowshoes from one end to another)
2.) Sleigh Ride (sitting backwards on a potato sack two other team mates pull you from one end to another)
3.) Snowballs Through Tunnels (students pass a "snowball" aka volleyball through the legs of the team)
4.) Snowball Toss (toss a wiffle ball into the snowman's hat)
5.) Knock the Penguin Off (toss a wiffle ball at the penguin on the iceberg)
6.) Snowboard Ride (students ride on their stomachs on the roller board and pick up a marshmallow and return back to their team)
7.) Biathlon (students "ski" with J-clothes, then drop to their stomach and try to throw 3 beanbags into a milk crate)
8.) Hockey Finale (the students take turns shooting on nets with the teachers as goalies)
Mrs. Morrison tried to get as many pictures as she could but she was also busy setting up equipment for the relays.

Penguins, Penguins, Penguins!

Last Wednesday we started learning about penguins.  We began by writing down something that we know and something that we wonder about penguins.  We used the Draw & Tell app on the iPads to create pictures and record our voice.  If you haven't already check out our individual blogs to see what we created.  On Friday we made penguins with our big buddies.

Yesterday Mrs. Morrison gave us 3 yes or no questions to answer, then she read us Penguins by Gail Gibbons and we wrote down the truth.

Today we read a book about penguins and created a penguins; have, can, are chart.

We are so excited to be learning about this topic!

Seasons

We completed our seasons books yesterday. Here is a look at the rest of the pages - winter, spring and summer.

Seasons

We have started learning about seasons in science.  Yesterday we created a chart and discussed what happens during each season.

Today we each began our own little book of seasons.  We had to complete the title page and the fall page.  Tomorrow we will continue working on them and post photos of our winter, spring and summer pages.

Things we do to stay HEALTHY!

We have begun our healthy living unit in health and career education.  Today we brainstormed the many things that we do to stay healthy.  Here is our list so far...

The students had so many great ideas and loved sharing.  Unfortunately, we ran out of time because we had to go to gym.  But we will continue to build our list next time.  Can you think of anything we could add to our list?

Snowmen

Yesterday we made a cool art project.  We mixed elmer's glue and shaving cream together to make "paint."  When the snowmen dried they were all puffy.

Goals for 2013!

Yesterday we talked about setting goals.  Why do people set goals?  To get better at something.  We each wrote down a goal to work on at school until Spring Break.
