Home Reading Program

On Friday, October 3 we started our home reading program.  Students will be bringing home a book each night in their book bag with a recording sheet and instructions.  Students need to record the date and book title and have a parent initial it each night of reading. When you finish one recording sheet, Mrs. Morrison will replace it with another.

The home reading program is a great way to strengthen your child's reading skills.  It is meant to be FUN!  You can read together and students can pick out words they know. Read the title together and talk about the picture on the front cover.  Ask what will this book be about?  Use a finger to track the print as you read.  Doing so will allow students to see each word as it is said.  After reading, talk about what happened in the book.  As we learn new reading strategies in grade one I will send that information home in the book bag.

Students need to bring the book and recording sheet back to school each school day, in the book bag.  This helps to protect the books and allows other children the opportunity to read that book the next day.

Our goal is to have each student read for 150 nights this school year!  They could even read 200 nights if they read on the weekends too!

Thank you for your support with this program.  Enjoy your reading time!
