The Mitten

Jan Brett is our author for Author Study this month.  We read The Mitten on Wednesday.  In the story a boy named Nikki loses his snow white mitten.  The mitten becomes home to many animals including a rabbit, a fox, a bear, a badger, an owl, and a mouse until the bear sneezes and all the animals go flying out of the mitten.  We made our own mittens that animals could crawl into.  Check them out...

Gingerbread Glyph

We made gingerbread men glyphs with our big buddies.  Do you know what a glyph is?  It is a picture that tells something special about you.
Have a look at our legend and see what you can find out about each gingerbread man.

Read to Someone Else

On Mondays we have been practicing Read to Someone Else.  There are 5 rules we must follow;
1.) Sit EEKK (elbow to elbow, knee to knee)
2.) Use a quiet voice.
3.) Get started right away.
4.) Stay in one spot.
5.) Read the whole time.
These two partners illustrate exactly what Read to Someone Else should look like.

Halloween Howl

On Friday all the primary classes at our school took part in our annual Halloween Howl.  Each class gets a turn to go to the gym with three other classes to take part in some Halloween themed relays.  The relays are…
- The Witches Sweep - child puts on plastic cape and sweeps a Halloween balloon down and around pylon with hockey stick broom.
- Knock the Ghost Off  - throw a wiffle ball at a plastic milk bottle ghost.
- The Spider Drop – put plastic spider on nose. Walk to pumpkin pail and drop in.
- The Ghost Ride - Ride roller board to cauldron, pick up Halloween treat and ride back.
- The Worm Snatch – Run across to paper plate and pick up a gummy worm with chopsticks.
- The Spider Drop – Carry glow-in-the-dark spider web with lights out.
We had a great time at the relays in the morning.

Fall is ...

As a class we brainstormed things that we could think of that were red, yellow and orange.  Overwhelming it seems that roses were the most popular choice for red and the sun was the most popular choice for yellow.

Jonathan's Kid of the Week

Halloween Art

On Monday we worked with our grade 6 and 7 big buddies to create a background for a halloween or fall scene.  We were given a sticker that we needed to incorporate into our design.  Take a look…

Fall Days!

Our First Kid of the Week...

We have had our first Kid of the Week…
Nathan has his life-size display in the class.  He brought photos of his family, his favourite book and 2 special toys to show the class.  As a class we created words using the letters in Nathan's name and created an acrostic poem for Nathan.
I can't wait to see each students display when it is their turn to be the kid of the week.
