Writing ...

Today most of us chose to write under our desks.  Where do you like to write?

Non-fiction Writing

This week we did some non-fiction writing about plants.  We had to include a heading, labelled diagram, caption and 3-5 sentences about plants.  Some people choose to write a lot more to show how much they know about plants.  Here are a few examples.

Bean Plants!

We planted our beans on May 17th, just before heading into a long weekend.  When we came back to school on Tuesday a couple beans had just sprouted.  Over the week a couple more started to sprout and some even saw leaves.  On Friday they looked like this...
When I came to school on Monday this is what I saw...

Plants

We are learning about plants in science.  Today we labelled the parts of a plant and uploaded them to our individual blogs.  Here are three samples but look at our individual blogs to see more.

Shapes

A couple weeks ago, when the weather was so nice, we borrowed a set of six iPods.  We went outside and in small groups shared the iPods and took photos of different 2D and 3D shapes we saw.  Mrs. Morrison compiled all the photos and put them in a dropbox folder.  Then she made a QR code for us to scan.  (In case you don't know - a QR code looks like a bunch of black and white dots but it has special information that will take you somewhere else when you scan it, and in our case it was to the dropbox folder of pictures.)  Using the iPads we scanned the QR codes and then chose six pictures to save.  We used an app called Pic Collage to display and label our photos.  Here are three examples, but check out our individual blogs to see more.

Shape Pictures

In math we have been working with 2D and 3D shapes.  On Tuesday we used 2D shapes (circles, squares, rectangles and triangles) to create a picture of our choice.  Here is the finished bulletin board.
 And couple close ups!

The Aquarium

Today all the grade one's in our school went on a field trip to the Vancouver Aquarium.  Our class has been excited about this trip since they found out about it in April and counting down the days since the May calendar went up.  We travelled by school bus and once we got there we split into smaller groups with our wonderful parent volunteers.  We explored the aquarium and took in some shows.  Here are a few photos of Mrs. Morrison's group during the day.  Check our individual blogs tomorrow as I'm sure some people will be writing about what they did.
