Happy Holidays!
I just wanted to take a minute to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season. Enjoy your two weeks off and see you back in January!
Snow Day!
The last day of school was extra special today! Not only was it HAT DAY, but grade ones also got to wear their pajamas because they were watching a movie in the afternoon. And it SNOWED! During my recess supervision I was able to snap a couple of photos...

The Nutcracker!
We have been working so hard practicing for the Nutcracker over the past month. Today was the day of the big show! And it was awesome! We had our first show at 1 pm. Then we had to come back to school at 6:30 for the 7 pm show. The audience was full for both shows. We did awesome during the afternoon show and even more awesome in the evening show. Mrs. Morrison is so proud of everyone!
Rehearsals on Tuesday - waiting for our turn.
Rehearsals - Finale (Waltz of the Flowers)
The Big Show - before the afternoon show.
I wasn't able to get any photos on stage of the afternoon show...
But, I managed to snap a couple photos during the evening show on stage.
Aren't they just the cutest Russian bakers you've ever seen?

The Mitten
On Wednesday we read The Mitten by Jan Brett. She is our new author study for December. We enjoyed hearing the story of all the animals that crawled inside the mitten after Nicki dropped it in the snow. We created our own animals that crawled into mittens using the template "A _____ crawled into the mitten because..."
"A cat crawled into the mitten because to stay warm." When you lift the mitten you see the cat inside.
I found a video of The Mitten being read aloud on YouTube. Here it is...Tuesday, December 03, 2013
Gingerbread People
On Monday we "Decked the Halls" during the afternoon. Christmas music played in the hallways and we created gingerbread people to go on our giant cookie sheet in the hallway.
10 Frame Names
Do you know what a ten frame is? This is a ten frame. It makes counting easy because when it is full we know there are 10 and we don't have to count by ones. It also helps us to understand other number relationships in relation to 10. For example 9 is 1 less than 10.
We put our names into 10 frames to find out if we had more or less then 10 letters. Then we found out how many more we would need to get to 10.
How many letters are in your name? Is it more or less than 10?
