Penguin, Penguins, Penguins

As you know we started learning about penguins last week.  One of the first things we did was complete this "what do you think?" sheet.  Mrs. Morrison wrote the 3 questions and we answered them.  Then she read us a book by Gail Gibbons on penguins.  After that we filled in the truths.

Another activity we completed was this penguins have, can, are chart after reading some books about penguins as a class.  After that we completed our own individual have, can, are pages in our science books.
We made these cute penguins with our big buddies on Friday.
Today we looked at a live penguin webcam at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  To check it out click HERE!  There is no sound but it is neat to watch the penguins live!  Feeding times are at 10:30 am and 3pm.  There is also another live penguin cam at the California Academy of Science which you can find HERE!  We were unable to watch it in school because we were using an iPad and it didn't have the right player.
We also did the Penguin Dance Chant with Jack Hartmann.  We had so much fun dancing and following along on the big screen that we did it twice.  Here are some photos of us having fun!

Penguins

We started learning about penguins today.  We worked in small groups and partners using an app called Draw & Tell to tell something we learned today.

Mharco and Riley worked together to create this video.

Menaru and Kamylle worked together to create this video.

Josh, Anisha and Hailey worked together to create this video.

Alina and Lindzy worked together to create this video.

What's your favourite season?

Over the past 2 weeks we've been learning about seasons.  There are four seasons - spring, summer, fall & winter.  We made weather windows detailing our favourite seasons and the reasons why.
What is your favourite season?

Rubber Ducky Day!

Today was Rubber Ducky Day (a spirit day put on by the leadership students of our school.)  We were encouraged to wear yellow and bring our rubber duckies to school.
There was a primary colouring contest that 3 students from our class won!  Congratulations to Hailey, Alina and Kelsey!

Happy New Year!

We forgot to post the photo of our party hats we made on the first day back and our socks telling what we are going to do to knock your socks off in 2014.
Many of us decided that we would knock your socks off by listening to the teacher, following the classroom rules, finishing all of our lunch and by being nice to classmates.

A fun math game...

Today we were practicing counting backwards in math.  We played a fun game to strengthen our skills.  We sat in a circle and took turns choosing a number card from 0-12.  We read the number and then the person to our right started the count down and it went around the circle.  Whoever said zero earned a bingo chip and the first person to get 3 chips was the winner.  For example if I choose the 3 card, I would say 3, the person next to me would say 2, the person next to them would say 1 and the person next to them would say 0 and earn a bingo chip!  We started to get very quick at counting backwards.
